Who Are We?
Pwatem
Pwatem is a publication that showcases an anthology of literature and art created by undergraduate students at Virginia Commonwealth University. We publish a wide range of creative works, including poetry, prose, and art, from talented students across all majors. Our dedicated and enthusiastic staff of editors works to promote and nurture the creative community at VCU and throughout the greater Richmond area.
Our Namesake
Pwatem gets its title from James Branch Cabell’s series of novels and other literary works collectively known as “Biography of the Life of Manuel.” These works are set in the fictional province of Poictesme (PWA-TEM) in France. Cabell, who lived and died in Richmond, Virginia, is the inspiration behind our name.
