Rabble

The Poictesme staff has started work on our 2nd issue of our Fall chapbook. Last year,we published the chapbook Cobblestone(s), an architecture-themed collection of prose, poetry and illustration. This year, we have decided to call the chapbook Rabble, paying homage to the  novelist James Branch Cabell.

Cabell would often use the rhyme, “Tell the rabble, my name is Cabell,” to inform his editors how to pronounce his name. We want this chapbook to showcase the literature and illustration of our rabble, or crowd–the ordinary students and alumni of VCU.

This year’s theme is ‘chimerical,’ meaning both unreal, and imaginary, or wildly fanciful and highly unrealistic. ‘Chimerical’ may also refer to  a fantastical entity made of various components from the real world. All work submitted for consideration for this project should be, in some way, an interpretation of this theme.

We are accepting prose, poetry, and illustration from VCU students and alumni. Illustrations can be in any colors, including grayscale and black and white. Individuals can submit as many pieces as they like. The deadline for submissions is July 31st. Please email your submissions as attachments to pwatem@gmail.com with the subject line “Rabble submission.” Check our submissions for more information on the process. We hope to hear from you!
